Not sure exactly which wireless card that you have, but here is a list of supported cards in Ubuntu, that is the best place to start for that.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/WirelessCardsSupported

Here is the page about printers, if you are speaking of sharing printers, the links at the bottom of that page will help, if you are talking about installing printers the first link should help.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Printers
http://linuxprinting.org/ is another great website to see if your printers are compatible with Linux.

For sharing, you will have to elaborate a bit more, we will need a few more details as far as exactly what you want to share, and between what kind of systems.

many thanks! about file sharing: i have 5 pcs, 2 wireless notebooks and
occasional friends over that
enjoy sharing files between our computers. i used to
use xp and the networking was pretty seemless, after
a bit of schmoozing. now, those files, which are on externals (160GB,
160GB, 320GB), are not visible from
the other computers running same ubuntu linux version.
actually, i'm having a bit of trouble allowing the main computer that all
the externals are housed off of access to the drives. they're all read
only, and it won't let me change to read/write/change....thanks...pop

So they ended up being read only, do they happen to be formatted using
NTFS? You can enable NTFS writing, but it is experimental, the best
would be if that is the case would be to change the formats of the
drives to something a little more Linux friendly. But if you want to
try it, there are directions here.
http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu_Edgy#How_to_mount_Windows_partitions_.28NTFS.29_on_boot-up.2C_and_allow_users_read_and_write_access

There are a lot of good guides on that site. To get you started on
sharing folders go to the System>Administration>Shared Folders menu and
that will get you well on your way to being able to share folders across
your network. If you get stuck on the way, let us know and we will see
what we can do.

Glad to hear it, also if you ever need to connect the external HD to a Windows system again, it is really easy to add support for ext2/3 to Windows. http://www.fs-driver.org/ has a driver and instructions. On my externals I have made very small fat32 partitions which holds a few things in case I need them on Windows. One of which includes that driver.
