There are a number of ways to convert cr2 files to jpegs. CR2 files are simply the 'raw' format for Canon DSLR cameras.

There are programs like ufraw and RawTherapee which are dedicated to converting raw files (for most, if not all major camera manufacturers), then there is dcraw which is meant for command line work

Beyond that, programs like Shotwell and Digikam are meant to allow you to organize, annotate and catalogue pictures -- and also allow you to export specific pictures in various formats and to various destinations (into specific directories or to various websites like Facebook, flickr, etc. )

With more information on precisely what you've got, and what you want to do with it, we can probably give you better suggestions on precisely which program to use..

(or you can just try the various programs out and see what works best for you -- that's part of the fun with Free software.)

The most likely place to find downloaded files is to look in the Downloads folder. Other likely places are /tmp (in the root filesystem) and your home folder.

Where downloaded files end up depend on the program you're using to download, and any settings you may have changed.

Something else you can do is just use the 'find file' functionality of Nautilus (the default file-viewing application for Ubuntu).

Just open up a folder (best place is your 'Home' folder), and then choose Go->Search for Files.
Then put in the name (or part of the name) of the file you're looking for, and Search should find it for you.

Can you help with this problem?
