Hello Alan,

I'm running Ubantu from the cd, I only started using it last night and so

am only just learning to stumble around!

I was looking for Internet explorer, but stumbled onto the web without

knowing how I did it.

Now I'm searching for Skype, from Windows, to run ekiga.net ,

Regards, Alan Palmer

Welcome!

Internet Explorer is a Windows-only program. There is an equivalent which does much the same thing called Mozilla Firefox. You'll find it under Applications --> Internet.

There is a version of Skype for Linux, but it's not as up to date as the Windows one unfortunately. The following web page talks about how to install it on Ubuntu.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Skype

Generally speaking the Windows programs you know and probably love won't work on Linux. However as with Firefox/IE there are often equivalents to most applications you'll find in the Windows world. Feel free to ask more questions about applications you're looking for.

Have fun.

Hi Alan,

Is it possible to put Linux into a seperate folder and switch over

Without switching off and back on?

I'm running Win XP, have two hard drives , a small one with Windows on

and a larger one for downloads, etc.

Could I also have your email address, so that I can write without replying,

regards, Alan Palmer
