Kindle is recognised as Digital Audio PLayer

When I plug in the USB of my KIndle, I'm asked what I want to do with the Digital Audio Player which has 'Kindle' named
underneath. Even if I click on the 'Eject' button, the KIndle ejects just as if I had run the command in the terminal.
How can I get the KIndle to be regognised as an e-book reader which is one of the options listed under 'More Options' ?

The Kindle can play music, though I would not use it for that and by default there is no software for e-readers. So that's the best it can offer.

You can however, Install e-reader software; Calibre is in the software centre; there may be others but this can be used to manage your kindle. When you plug your kindle in it is still recognised as a Digital Audio Player but just ignore that and open it with Calibre.

This lets you read files that are not DRM locked and manage the books on your device.

Thank you, that has helped me, Warren. I did wonder why that was happening. I suppose I ought not download books directly from Amazon then? And Calibre does that for me?

Its up to you. Personally I don't use Calibre any more I just download direct to my device wireless. I only connect my kindle to the PC to back it up just in case it ever fails.

You can backup files without installing anything just copy with the file manager.
