Conneting a digital camera starts shotwell

Asked by Elbarbudo

When I connect my Canon EOD 1000D digital camera, showell starts automagically. Great, but I want to use Rapid-Photo- downloader instead.

In the system settings / Details / removable medias, I put Rapid Photo downloader as default action, but shotwell is always starting.

When I browse the SD card, I also see Shotwell as proposed action.

Is it a bug or did I miss some action?

Do you use shotwell?

Yes, I use shotwell to manage my photo library.

But I use Rapid photo downloader to import my photos, sort them by date and rename them with my own naming schema.
(features not available in shotwell)
And after that I start shotwell to tag my photos and sort them by events.

If you make a fresh user and set the default action as you require, is it ok?

I will try it this evening, when returning from work.

OK : on a new user account, it works fine....

Thanks for th tip.

The strange thing is that on Ubuntu 11.04 and 11.10, it worked fine : the photos where magically imported by Rapid Photo Downloader.

Here is the way I do my installations : I have the /home directory on a separate disk and I don't format it.
But I do format the / file system before fresh installation (bad update experiences...).

Until now it seemed OK.

Now the question is : which configuration file must I erase to get the wanted behaviour?

Now we know it is settings based and not the applications themselves

I found a workaround :

1 - set Photo preferences to "ask"
2 - insert an SD card or connect a digital camera
I get the popup asking what to do
      Choose "Rapid Photo Downloader"
      Click on "always do this"
3 - remove and reinsert the card : Bingo : RPD starts

I don't understand your comment :
"sort them by date and rename them with my own naming schema" is my goal :

I can transform an esoteric "IMG_5202.jpg" (from the camera) file to 2019-01-23_07-01-13_1000D.jpg : Date and time in human readable form, and brand of camera.

This is not possible with shotwell but very easy with Rapid-Photo-Dowloader.

Second point : the three URL's ( https://tgw.onl/hostgator/ https://tgw.onl/dreamhost/ https://tgw.onl/bluehost/) seem dead links or just advertising
