how to open a text files of an application

Asked by scott Yeager

i am a linux gamer. and some games i cannot complete, and i refuse to set the game to easy. so what do i do? i cheat. there is a game called lugaru, which is the predecessor to overgrowth. and in that game there is a level i cannot get past, luckily for me there are cheats for this game. to enter a cheat in the game, it requires me to open it with a text editor and change the debug value to 1, but i do not know how to open it as a text editor, and i was hoping there would be a simple command i could put in the x-term to open the required documents. thank you for reading, and pondering over my problem.

nano /path/filename.ext

or if you don't have rights to save the files once you've changed it

sudo nano /path/filename.txt

The hotkeys for nano (save, exit etc) are at the bottom of the screen.

gedit is a gui based text editor. You can use that. If the file is NOT in your home folder then run:

gksudo gedit

and you can edit any file you desire.
