Can't access smb shares from open dialog

Asked by Wladston Viana

I can't open the files on my Samba based NAS. They don't show on the left panel, and I can't reach then, no matter what I do....

When I try to type the smb:// address, it "Cannot change to folder because it's not local"

I'm on Gusty, on feisty it worked normally ...

Should I report a bug ?

Thanks for the question.

Do you have the package "smbfs" installed?

Hope this helps.

Ralph,

Yes, I have. The folders show up in nautilus and in most applications, but on some others, they won't allow you to open a samba share....

This is a sad regression on gusty... on fesity everything worked fine. I found a hard way to solve it, with was mounting the shares via fstab on startup. Now I can open the shares in any application, normally.

I think the real end user should NEVER care about editing a dangerous system file in order to access his NAS storage.

They've also placed other stupid restrictions to samba shares - now you can't burn an iso file with is in a samba share, and the system will not give you any warning, or message. It will just stop working. I took a long time to figure this bug out ...

I'm using Intrepid and I have exactly the same problem, can't see my windows shares in open/save dialog boxes (in firefox for example), but I can see it and I have bookmarked it in nautilus.
My workaround is to copy the exact file path from nautilus and then paste it in the open/save dialog box, but it's annoying....

I have find other workaround: When I have to open/save a file on a smb shared, while mounted, I show hidden files in the open/save dialog box (with Ctrl + H), and then go into /home/myuser/.gvfs, where I can access to the shares.
It's easier than to copy the whole file path but I would prefer to have a direct access to my smb shares as I can do in others programs...
