Sharing folders with XP

Asked by Ted

How do I share files from my Ubuntu machine?
I have already shared a folder on my Ubuntu machine using System - Administration - Shared Folders.
I am able to see ALL of my WindowsXP machines on the networked from my Ubuntu machine BUT when I try to "see" the shared folder on my Ubuntu machine from my XP machines, I am prompted for a User name: and Password:
I've tried the information I use to access the Ubuntu machine when I first login.
The password to access the Admin tools does not work either.
Nothing I try seems to work. My User name: gets changed to NAMEOFUBUNTUMACHINE/LOGINNAME

I would appreciate any assistance.

Thanks,

Ted

Ted,

You need to create a new user in your linux box for each user in your windows machines that you want that it be capable to have access to the shared folders. It nominates the users of the same way you do in the windows and put the same password. This should resolve the problem.
