When you plug it in, does the device show up on the desktop or in the left panel in nautilus?

yes it does show in the left panel, as a 4,1 gb media system...

Some questions:
 * What kind of MP3 player is this?
 * Can you open the "4,1 GB Media System" Folder that you see on your desktop when you plug the player in?
 * If so, can you see mp3 files in some directory on that device (assuming you already have some music on this player)? Can you copy more music into that directory?

Harry,
 * What kind of MP3 player is this -- what's the make and model?

If you can find the directories of MP3 files on that device, there's a good chance you can just copy MP3 files there using drag-and-drop with Nautilus.

According to this page:
http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/hardy/man4/umass.4.html

The "Qware BeatZkey! Pro" will work as a "USB Mass Storage Device". In other words, you should be able to drag and drop files to a directory on the device and be able to play them.

You still haven't told us the model number (is it the BeatZKey! Pro? Something else?), or what happened if/when you tried to drag and drop files into a directory on the device.

the Qware player is the qw-404k and it does work as a usb mass storage device, to my surprise when
i tried to drag and drop the downloaded mp3 files it seemed that this was already done,

only on the player i cannot find the file, but i guess i did something wrong,

although i have confidence that it eventually will work with a little change.

thanks for the help, especially Josh....
