In the Lucid version of Nautilus, can I bring back the toggled pathbar/location bar from Karmic?

Asked by Sage Ross

In Karmic, there is a pencil icon that switches between a pathbar and location bar (buttons vs. text) in Nautilus. In Lucid the pencil toggle is gone. Is there a way to re-enable that in Lucid? I can access the text version with ctrl+L, but changing locations switches it back to buttons, and sometimes I'd rather leave it as text.

I browsed through the nautilus options in gconf-editor, but nothing looked relevant. Maybe I just didn't look in the right place.

Correct answer:

gconf-editor /apps/nautilus/preferences/always_use_location_entry

Sage,

Sorry for the multiple answers, had I just read your question originally this wouldn't have been a problem. It seemed like every answer I gave was worse then the one before - so I'm trying one last time to give you a valid/correct answer.

I assume the gconf entry will ALWAYS show the location bar, perhaps not what you want.

If you look at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/532211 in particular comment 7, states this was a design decision.

Another shortcut to getting the location bar appears to be pressing the / key, perhaps this is a better work-around.

Again sorry for all the crappy answers, best of luck,
George

I must have been using it like this for some months now and never noticed. I use ctrl-L by habit. I noticed tonight that there was no location bar edit, and I was stumped. I saw you post, simply ctrl-l, and well, there it is. Outstanding! Big thank-you.

Thanks all! Be real, be sober.

Can you help with this problem?
