help setting up my server

I'm using ubuntu desktop 9.10 and i would like this to be set up as my home server
but im new to this os and need instctions

Maybe you can try apache you can get in synaptic system - administration - synaptic manager.
Just a note apache servers are used more than any other server. it is fairly simple to set up and run.
 If you just want a home network system try Samba it can also be found in synaptic use the search box.
