Ubuntu doesn't have a system restore utility to my knowledge.

Hi :)

It does have something much better than a simple 'restore' feature tho. Do you have an Ubuntu Cd? Please use this guide to try booting-up your machine into a LiveCd session

If this works there are a lot of options available for us. Please let us know how this goes
