Make mono-devel required dependency?

Asked by Jesse

I did a fresh install of monodevelop on Linux Mint 18.1, and started a console .net project. Hitting CTRL+F5 on the keyboard or pressing the "run" button causes a console to come up, but with an error that says, "Cannot open assembly" ... then "no such file or directory". Installing the mono-develop package fixes this error and makes the default start-up code run fine.

Being that this package is necessary to make the console-based solutions/projects work in MonoDevelop, shouldn't the mono-devel package be a required dependency and not a recommended one?

I might encourage the maintainers to consider making mono-devel a required package. Doing so would make the program more user-friendly (users wouldn't have to hunt down this solution) and promote a more complete, working out-of-the-box experience.

Mint is not supported by the Ubuntu community in any way. It's support community is entirely separate from Ubuntu's.

I suggest you post on the Mint forum here:
https://forums.linuxmint.com

None of the "Ubuntu based" distributions are supported here.

Ubuntu is based on Debian. If you ask for Ubuntu support then you will be pointed here (or similar)
