compile and Install kde 3.5.10 on Intrepid

I've a question about make and kde.

How I can compile kde 3.5 for intrepid?

Can this way be the right way:

extract archive -> ./configure -> make -> make install?

yes, looks like the tight way.

But use " checkinstall " instead of make install, it auto-generate a .deb file, if fails is easy to uninstall.
