Move to newest version?

A lot of issues are fixed in the newest version of Meld. Is there a chance we will se it in apt any time soon?

I suggest you report a bug. If the bug and security fixes are significant then the package will be updated sooner rather than later. Ubuntu is not a rolling release distribution and packages will remain at their current versions unless there is significant reason to update them. This is what "stable" means.

I have been on the meld website and it points to here
https://flathub.org/apps/details/org.gnome.meld

so you can remove the version you have and install using that. The requirements are here

You can check your versions to see if you meet them
