Ubuntu Linux 10.04 Features - System Monitoring

Asked by Shinda

What, if any, front-end user interactive features, does Ubuntu Linux have for monitoring such system diagnostics as hardware temperature?

According to messages generated just before the machine I use shuts down, overheating is a major problem. How can I monitor the temperature of the machine, before it automatically shuts down?

You can use lm-sensor package to get system temperature from command line.
After that run
sudo sensors-detect
this will ask you which hardwares you want to monitor.
Complete it & install package named sensors-applet.
Maybe this is what you wanted.

Check the site for more detailed description of how to install that.
