Unable to play quicktime streaming movie from Apple.com

Asked by Adhika

I'm using ubuntu 8.10 (2.6.27-7-generic)
I have installed mplayer plugin for mozilla which is used to play the quicktime streaming from apple.com but I'm still not able to see the streaming videos.

I used to be able to play the streaming videos, but after some updates which I've done previously I think I never been able to play the streaming videos anymore.
I've forgotten the update that I've done so far.

What can I do to solve this problem?
Is there any log file I can check on this problem?

Thank you,
Adhika

Ahhh, try adding in the Medibuntu packages as described in this help guide
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu

You probably just need "flash-plugin" or something like that from Synaptic Package Manager but it sounds like it might be worth sorting out all those issues in one step with Media-ubuntu (hence Medibuntu). Unlike Kubuntu or Xubuntu it's not a complete OS but is instead a collection of packages, codecs and repositories to add to any of the *buntu's in order to be able to get movies, google-earth and a huge range of other things. It's not for linux purists who might be ethically against it but i like it :)

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

Hi Tom and Marcobra I can still play youtube video which is using flash plugins.
This means that my flash plugins is actually fine.
My problem is that I cannot play the movie trailers in apple.com directly from the site. I need to copy the link from the page source first.

I have no idea whether this is a bug coming from the firefox or coming from my ubuntu.

Thank you,
Adhika

I got this error message in my error console in firefox every time I clicked one of the movie titles.

Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Security error" code: "1000" nsresult: "0x805303e8 (NS_ERROR_DOM_SECURITY_ERR)" location: "http://movies.apple.com/trailers/scripts/trailer.js Line: 459"]

This is happened even before I tried to click one of the link (small, medium, large) to play the movie.

I hope this gives you more clue.

Thank you,
Adhika

Tools - Addons

inside firefox some of the addons may have been broken by upgrading firefox. Hopefully you can update the addons inside firefox - or else you might be able to re-enable, reinstall ones that are disabled or perhaps find more recent versions of ones that are beyond hope - hopefully there wont be any of those.

Good luck with this
Regards from
Tom :)
