NWZ-B153 not detected by music players
I have the Sony NWZ-B153 mp3 player and when using Banshee or Rhythmbox, I am unable to detect the mp3 player. When I connect the device, it is opened immediately with the file browser, so the player is connecting to the computer, but it's being treated as a usb storage device only.
I am able to transfer music to the device which does play correctly, but this is rather time consuming as I have to do so one file at a time. I was hoping to use Banshee to be able to sync the device with my music library.
I read that libmtp was updated for the NWZ-B153F for libmtp 1.0.3-6 which I installed. I then ran mtp-detect and received the following output:
libmtp version: 1.0.3

I install natty beta1 on my netbook recently and realised there was a newer version of libmtp. I tried the player with the netbook instead and banshee is still not seeing the player, but I'm getting a different output with mtp-detect.

I'm having the same issue with a similar Sony NWZ-* player. Let's hope the MTP team checks this one out.

I'm having the same problem with my NWZ-e344 Walkman. I don't get why the Walkman doesn't get much attention as an iPod does. A Walkman is the second most popular mp3 player out.

We libmtp people are listening but we cannot fix this without a device.
Even if we had a device, it may be impossible to fix it if it relies on strong authentication like the Microsoft Zune. That would require negotiating with Microsoft content servers to authenticate transfers, unless they provide that to Linux clients it can not be done.
I will be at Ubuntu Summit in Orlando, Florida for the Linaro Connect, if you want to meet med and experiment with some machines, bring them there and notify me, plus subscribe me to any relevant blueprints/
