Applying a patch in Ubuntu Release 10.04 (Lucid)

Asked by Steve Byam

How do I apply a patch in Ubuntu?

I am getting the following message/error in my messages and kern.log every 30 minutes. It is related to having my external USB drive plugged in and the computer trying to read the SMART data on the drive.

sd 3:0:0:0: [sdc] Sense Key : Recovered Error [current] [descriptor] Descriptor sense data with sense descriptors (in hex): 72 01 00 1d 00 00 00 0e 09 0c 00 00 00 00 00 00
00 4f 00 c2 e0 50
sd 3:0:0:0: [sdc] Add. Sense: ATA pass through information available

It appears that this bug has a patch at the following link: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=578129

How do I apply this patch in Ubuntu Release 10.04 (lucid) or how can I get this patch added to the standard update?
