adio items are not rendering properly

I have a GTKMM application in which I create an appindicator. My menu contains a submenu within which is a section containing several radio items. The initial radio selection is rendered with a bullet, as expected. However, when I change the selection, the associated action executes as expected and a bullet appears on the new selection, but the bullet on the previous selection is NOT removed. After selecting all of the radio items in succession, all of the items are rendered with bullets.

When I attach the same menu to my application window instead of the appindicator, the rendering are executed properly, with only one bulletted item showing at any given time.
