What desktop environment and / or shell are you using? KDE? Gnome? Unity?

What is the output of :

Hardy is not supported in any way. It is EOL.

I suggest you wipe Hardy off and perform a clean install of Trusty. Trusty is LTS and supported til April 2019.

Thank you for your quick response. Am I to assume that I can't get any help with Ktorrent because I'm using an old and unsupported OS? If so, I will click problem solved even though it is not.
Please don't take this the wrong way. I mean no disrespect to you at all. On my other computers I have installed 10.04LTS, My wife and I found it uncomfortable to use. So I installed 11.04, 11.10 12.04LTS and at present 12.1 We have felt just as uncomfortable with them. I haven't bothered with 13.04, 13.10 or 14.04LTS. I figured it is probably no different and we have alway disliked windows. We've been using linux based OS's for 20years now. It's a shame that a good OS like 8.04LTS was forced out do to progress good or bad. At one time I thought Ubuntu was the best OS out there, very user friendly even for the want-to-be-geek like myself but it seems that they have conformed to that capitalistic view "out with the old in with the new" even though Ubuntu is a free to all operating system. Other than not being able to update or get help for 8.04 since it went EOL, Hardy Heron has been a solid OS for 7 years now. I guess the saying " If it isn't broke don't fix it" went out with the old. I know I'm not the first to complain about 8.04's EOL and I'm probably not the last. Well sorry for the rant.

Have you tried Xubuntu or Lubuntu? I have Xubuntu 12.04 installed on another computer. It is more like older versions of Ubuntu.
