how to update to newer version kmymoney2

Asked by Ken T

Using kmymoney2-0.8.5 on Ubuntu 7.04 I have kmymoney2-0.8.7.tar.bz2 on my desktop but cannot find a way to upgrade. Too much data on older version to delete and start over with newer version. What now?

The easiest way to install would be to find a package file. Now you have the source code for version 0.8.7, but you need to compile it! It can be a bit complicated.

I see a deb file on their website for download:
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/kmymoney2/kmymoney2_0.8.7-1_i386.deb?modtime=1185396460&big_mirror=0

Did you try it?

Thank you for answering my question. I did download the deb file but
received the following message: Error: Dependency is not satisfiable:
kdelibs4.
I have that file plus several more kde files. I don't need something
complicated since this my 4th month of using Ubuntu and my knowledge of the
inter workings of this operating program is quite limited. Any other
suggestions?

You have to first install kde headers..
try sudo apt-get install kdelibs4-dev in a terminal/Konsole
and then here is a link with a .deb file http://downloads.sourceforge.net/kmymoney2/kmymoney2_0.8.7-1_i386.deb?modtime=1185396460&big_mirror=0
