Hardware driver problems with 2.6.24-21-generic
Hello,
I did install Ubuntu 8.04 LTS on a Toshiba laptop AMD Turion 64 from a CD Desktop Edition 64 bits.
The installation configures kernel 2.6.24-16.
The integrated ATI Mobilitiy Radeon HD 3650 graphic Board was correctly handled directly.
But Ethernet controller: Marvell Technology 4355 was not recognized I then used a perl script to modify sky2 module and launch it manually.
But it was not possible to get USB Wifi Wireles Board Realtek work and connecting a USB key to my laptop gives no results and not seen in lsusb.
Hardware driver is not really my cup of tea then I said I will wait that future generic kernel release will handle my hardware. Then I tried to upgrade toward 2.6.24-21-generic.
When booting it stops around 10 minutes at stage "Loading Hardware Driver" then it switches to console mode at stage "Starting Bluetooth". Most of the time, at first connection of GNOME there is a problem with Xorg configuration file. When you finally get GNOME work again there is no improvement for USB storage drive management but now Realteck wireless network is being recognized. I never could get my home wireless connection work mainly because I switched back to 2.6.24-16 due to the 20 min necessary to boot on 2.6.24-21.
Here is the feedback.
My questions was :
> Did I missed something and 2.6.24-21 should work perfectly ?
> Is there a particular Ubuntu site where to report this type of problems, I didn't find any ?
> Where to find information on changes between 2.6.24-16 and 2.6.24-21 ?
> When can I expect another kernel release and how to help to fix my problem ?
Many thanks.
