Ark : File and directory names with accent

Asked by truc

Hi, I am trying to unpack a big .zip file packed under windows XP (7-zip). It works fine, but all accented letters (é, è, à,...) in file and directory names are not correctly displayed (B, K, E in this case). I know that it comes from adiffernt encoding of Windows and Linux, but it doesn't help me very much. I have tried to convert the encoding to utf8 with convmv, but I don't know from which enconding I am starting (I tried iso-8859-1 and iso-8859-15, but it doesn't give the right symbols).

I precise that everything is going fine with non zipped data, I have nothing to do.

Is it possible to solve my ploblem in Ark ? Do you know another archivng program under Linux which handles accents (Peazip does not) ?

Thanks

I still don't have any solution witihn Linux, but I found one using a free Windows software: I installed 7zip.exe with Wine (Windows implementation for Unix).

All files and directories with accents in their names which have been zipped under Windows and unzipped with 7zip under Wine are displayed with the right accented characters.

I still persist in saying that this is a shortcoming for linux not to have an archiver with this function.
