Retrieving items from clipboard

I am using kpdf to read pdf files. I am able to copy images/text into clipboard, but am not able to retrieve them for pasting into another application like document/presentations. My query is 1. Where is the clipboard? 2. How does one paste items from the clipboard?

the clipboard tool is located on the system tray called klipper, you can configure the behavior of klipper or read klipper handbook for more info.
