Angelo,

Sometime upgrades go wrong, especially if you use third party repositories, but you problem could be something simpler. I suspect you have corrupted user preferences, so I'll show you how to create a clean preferences folder:

1. log out of your session
2. log into a terminal (with ctrl+alt+f1)
3. now we'll rename (make backup) the preferences folder:
    cd ~
    mv .kde kde.old
4. go back to graphical login and start your session

Now a fresh preferences folder will be created and hopefully konsole will work.

Let us know if all went ok.

The only other thing I can think of is that there are come missing packages, so you can try this:

- Make sure your repositories are ok, the /etc/apt/sources.list file should look like this (you can copy/paste this if you like):

deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ jaunty main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ jaunty-updates main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ jaunty-backports main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu jaunty-security main restricted universe multiverse

- You can also use your installation CD/DVD as a package source:

sudo apt-cdrom add

- After this, update the package list:

sudo apt-get update

- Then try installing the kubuntu-desktop package:

sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop

- Also, you can try updating the system:

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

If this does not work, your best bet is to backup all our data and do a clean install.

Too bad none of my suggestions worked, but I think you'll be better with a clean install.

Can you help with this problem?
