wallpaper changes after reboot in kubuntu 10.10

Asked by curious

Hi,
I am using Kubuntu 10.10. I tried to change the wallpaper on kubuntu desktop.
I right clicked the desktop -> desktop settings -> and opened a picture for the wallpaper
from a drive where i use to store pictures.

The wallpaper changed but when i shut the PC down and opened it the next day the wallpaper
was gone and there was black screen. I had to do the above procedure again to restore it back.

why does this happen ?

I may have an explanation about the problem that the drive i stored the picture is not mounted when the system try to find the picture as it starts up. Because one needs password to mount a drive.

Is there any way around to solve it ? :)

Well, since it *does* need to have access to the picture to open it you'll have to copy that picture somewhere plasma doesn't need to wait for you to mount the drive. Maybe there's another solution, but that should be the easiest. (or does the picture have to be password protected?)

thanks for the response.

The picture does not have to be password protected. Since the pictures are in a partitioned hard drive i need to set them to auto mount to make plasma not wait for the password.
Or i can put the pictures in the home folder.

Is that right ?

Right, either set it up for auto-mount or copy it to some place that is mounted before you log in.

Can you help with this problem?
