How to install only K9copy only ??
K9copy is the best DVD ripper for Linux. I have seen it in my friends system,he is using kubuntu 11.04. But I am using Ubuntu 11.04 ,64 bit. Is it possible to install K9copy only in my system, without installing KDE packages . So far I know KDE software are runs on gnome but slow down the system as they force to run some KDE programme internally. Is that true? In that case is there any gnome version of K9copy ? Is there any other software like it? Please give me any suggestion.
thanks

If you install k9copy, it will install some components of KDE (which it requires for support), but not others. You can examine the consequences of installing k9copy by opening a Terminal window (Applications > Accessories > Terminal) and running:
sudo apt-get update; apt-get -s install k9copy
That updates your package information, then performs a simulation of installing k9copy. It does not actually install (or remove) any software, but it will show you what other software will get installed alongside k9copy.
Running k9copy may cause some KDE background services to run, but you can quit those services in the System Monitor (make sure you've completely exited out of k9copy and any other KDE applications first).
Alternatives to k9copy include HandBrake (http://

The warning/error messages you got above are unrelated to K9Copy. They are caused by the gdm2setup PPA being enabled, even though it does not provide any software for the Ubuntu release you are using (it only provides for releases before 10.10). See https:/
Does K9Copy give you any error messages when it crashes?

Also, whether or not it gives you error messages when it crashes, try running k9copy in a Terminal and see if there are any messages (of any kind) written to the Terminal as you use it--if so, please post them here as well as information about any error messages that are displayed in the program itself.

I'm glad K9Copy is working now. If it was actually *crashing* (quit suddenly and unexpectedly and, when run from a Terminal, shows a message like "Segmentation fault" or "Assertion error" or reports "core dumped"), that should not be happening even when attempting to burn to a physically defective DVD. So if that is the case, and you are interested, it might be worthwhile to investigate the matter further and ultimately, if appropriate, report a bug. (If you want to do this, please let me know.) If, rather than crashing, it simply displayed an error message graphically indicating that it was unable to burn the DVD, then with a physically defective DVD, there is no reason to think that any of K9Copy's behavior is due to a bug.
To remove the outdated, gmd2setup PPA and any software currently installed from it, you can use ppa-purge, as I had indicated (http://
sudo ppa-purge ppa:gdm2setup/
If that command does not seem to work, or it seems to work but you still get error messages when you subsequently run "sudo apt-get update", then please post a reply containing the text from the Terminal.

Sir you are absolutely right. I am explaining the fact in details. Actually I have some audio Ts and Video Ts folder ,which I copied from some DVDs(not restricted). When I open k9copy and from wizard > Folder > then selecting that particular folder the k9copy crashes every time and the error message is "We are sorry, k9copy closed unexpectedly.
You can help us improve KDE Software by reporting this error.
Executable: k9copy PID: 4862 Signal: Segmentation fault (11)"
But if I select another folder k9copy is working fine.
**another suggestion given by you
the command is not working.
sukhendu@Moon:~$ sudo ppa-purge ppa:gdm2setup/
[sudo] password for sukhendu:
sudo: ppa-purge: command not found
sukhendu@Moon:~$
what should I do?
thanks

The error you got running ppa-purge is because ppa-purge is itself not installed. So, installed it:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install ppa-purge
Then you should be able to run it without problems:
sudo ppa-purge ppa:gdm2setup/
I'll reply soon about the crash.

If you are willing to do so, I would encourage you to file a bug about this. To do that:
(1) Read https:/
(2) Enable Apport (https:/
(3) Produce the crash. Apport will come up automatically and give you the opportunity to report the crash. Apport will submit information to Launchpad, and you can fill out the bug report in a web browser window. Make sure to describe fully the steps you took to produce the bug.
(4) After you report the crash, it will have private visibility. Data collected from a crash in k9copy are unlikely to reveal sensitive information like passwords, credit card numbers, or sensitive documents, so you may want to make your bug public immediately. While you should not mark other users' bugs public while they contain CoreDump.gz attachments, it is acceptable to do this with your own bugs, if you so choose. You might want to read https:/
Can you help with this problem?
Provide an answer of your own, or ask Sukhendu Ghosal for more information if necessary.
