error code 254 in k3b (return)

I have tried just about ALL the suggestions I've found... but K3b returns to error 254...
even after a very slow burn.......it stopped in the middle of the very next, at 10x speed
other burning apps fail much quicker....
is this a K3b issue or a
drive issue?
I'm trying to burn audio...... the thing is that, I have been able too problem since I've started using K3b
This error just popped up yesterday....
I see by reading the dates in the threads that this is an old issue....
but I have not found the answer
I thought I would solve it by making sure I have permission to do this operation..... and did so...
but then I get the error again and suggestions like the TAO sometimes helps it didn't for me...
what can I do?

Ok I figured out that my drive does not like CD-R 52x (went through half a stack of 50 )
But after Burning a couple of avi.with dvd blanks, I decided that I should try different CD-Rs.
I was surprised that k3b burned the new CD-Rs 40x.
And have no problems since...I must admit to everyone who gets frustrated when using Ubuntu, the answers are usually simple....just cover all your bases....
so error 254 is telling you that your drive does not like the disk... check the speed on the disk.. try a slower speed if applicable......a slower disk speed not burn speed....
