Burning to a Memorex DVD-RW (4.7 GB)

Asked by Steve

I've had no problems burning to other DVD-RW's over the years, but I just bought some Memorex -RW's and it won't copy my video files to it. Are the disks that different from one manufacturer to another. Thx in advance.

Hello Steve,

I got some problems with these discs some time ago...

Could you paste here the versions of Kubuntu (I suppose your are using it) and K3b you are using ? We could need your burning device model if you know it, and the results of the commands "wodim -atip" and "wodim -prcap".

Thanks by advance for providing this.

I'm using Ubuntu Gutsy and K3B. The drive is a Memorex DVD16+/-DL4RWlD2. Is it your experience that these disks won't work w k3b

Also, the error message in k3b is 'write error, media unformatted or unsupported'. I know it's blank and formatted, so 'unsupported'? what does this mean.

I had the same problem with the CD/DVD creator of Nautilus, so I think it comes more from wodim (the command line burning util which is used by both K3B and Nautilus Burner) than from the graphical apps.

It seems that your burning device is detected properly (as far as I know from wodim output), so I think you may consider to report a bug under wodim for this problem (check before that there is no similar bug report, and then click on the "Create a bug report" link on the upper left of this page).

Thanks for providing these infos.
