how can I get BitchX to compile since it stopped being supported after version 6?

Grab the source, install build-essential then start compiling. You will need to grab the -dev dependencies to build it. As the app is very abstracted. You may be able to install the dapper deb and it may just work:

http://packages.ubuntu.com/dapper/bitchx

Seems to depends on libmysqlclient15off but libmysqlclient16off is in the natty repo, it's gonna get real messy.

Someone else also needed libmysqlclient15off and as far as written in https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mysql-dfsg-5.0/+question/141024 it might be possible to install it on newer versions.

newer version doesnt work. I have libmysqlclient16 installed and no package listed for libmysqlclient15. All other packages are installed

The trick in https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mysql-dfsg-5.0/+question/141024 was to _manually_ install the karmic version of libmysqlclient15off from http://packages.ubuntu.com/karmic/libmysqlclient15off as it is not possible to install it via software.center or synaptic (just download the .deb file from the address given, and perform a doubleclick on it)

Had to grab the .deb file to install libmysqlclient15off. Then grabbed the .deb file dabber for BitchX. The newer libmysqlclient16off that was installed on this was.... let's say someone said messy. Understatement and failed. Thanks for all the input people. My gratitude is yours. BitchX is mine again
