There are good chances that Ubuntu 14.10 will contain the 6.8.9 version (or higher). Launchpad already knows about that version, see https://launchpad.net/imagemagick/main/6.8.9-1

If there are important improvements in that release, it might be possible that the new version will also be backported to older Ubuntu releases. Creating a "wishlist" bug might stimulate that.
