HPLIP installation failure

Installing HPLIP 3.9.12.run failed with the following error message:-

error: Configure failed with error: python-devel not found

Any suggestions ?

Try using synaptic: is there a package called "python-devel"?

This somewhat solved the problem and the prtter can now be used, although not at all print resolutions.

I do not know what "python-devel" is - this is just the error message.

My attempt at installing hplip frustrated in Step 2 of Howto. (job 111980 )
When no Dialogue box appears. HP Note in Red "Must have GUI to work" !

Could this be that the most recent version of HPlip has bug, or even the hp-setup ?

Would like to repeat using an earlier version of Hplip .
So will be trying these methods to install same.
