HP C6180 network printing

Asked by gevie

I am new to Kubuntu and Linux. I have a HP photosmart C6180 All-in-One printer. It is set up as a network printer. My wife uses her Windows laptop to connect to the printer along with my desktop. I am running a dual boot with windows XP and have just loaded Kubuntu. I am unable to get the printer to work with Kubuntu. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try to run this command from a terminal, and let us know if there is any error reported (the printer must be on and connected):

hp-setup

Make also sure that the following ports are open (both the router and your local firewall, if any):

udp/161 for SNMP
2207 and 2208 tcp/udp for the hplip daemons (you can verify these in the file /etc/hp/hplip.conf)
udp/9100 for printing

Last, try pinging the printer from a terminal and see if there is any error message.
Please also tell us the IP address of your printer.

Thanks.

Don't worry about the X errors, its normal (wacom devices).
You have to run hp-setup as root, or just prefix it with sudo, like this: sudo hp-setup
Any news about the IP address?

Cesare:

Thank you very much. When I ran the setup as a super user, it ran a wizard and set everything up. It even printed a test page perfectly with all of the printer info, etc. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.
