hp 3050a wireless printer setup problem

Asked by Steve Houde

I was following question Question #135694 "HP Deskjet 3050 I/O error" because I have similar setup up problem with wireless. I would like to continue on that thread if possible.

I have the printer set up fine on a wired connection to my laptop, the driver works really well, very impressed on a nice job.

My problem remains that I'm unable to get an ip address for the printer to set it up for wireless connections on my network. I've been unable to determine an ip address for the printer - The printer doesn't get an address from the router(DHCP), I cant seem to access the printer by usb or wireless either, and the reports show the printer's server at url http://0.0.0.0 - no good.
I haven't been able to locate a printer configuration page, or see the printer in the list of wireless devices in the Network Manager. So I'm stuck.

Donald Broatch had been helping out, I attempted to follow, but unfortunately couldn't go forward, see <<my notes>> below:

You can get round the problem like this:

Enable wireless on the printer.
        <<<<blue light flashing - Done>>>>
Look for the wireless broadcast in Network Manager.
<<<<No printers found among the networks available - how can I proceed? >>>>
Set up an ad hoc connection, with "IPV4 addressing" option to "link-local".
Con nect to that ad hoc connection- disconnect from other connections if necessary.
In the wireless menu of the pr er, select the option to print a report. (Don't worry if the blue wireless light is flashing.)
Look for the URL of the printer (Embedded Web Server) in the report.
Enter that URL in a browser.
Select your wireless network and enter the password in the configuration page that appears.
Run the HP program, choose "Set up Device" Network/wireless and your printer should appear.....

all the info you need to have your printer communicate with your router is displayed on the LED panel when your first turn on and initialize the printer. if you didn't do it the first time, you can use the panel to reset everything and try again from the start.

I am having the same problem after replacing xl with zorin.
I think I downloaded the hplkp thjng but at this point I haven't figured out how to fjnd newly downloaded programs or how to create shortcuts on the desktop for them.
I was able to cknnect the printer with the usb and print a test, but that is about it.
Thanm you in advance for any help you may lend.

Zorin isnt supported by the Ubuntu community. It has its own community and forums.

Can you help with this problem?
