HP D1341 boots up error HPLIP Status Service no system tray detected on this system unable to start, exiting.

Unable to view my D1241 printer As to monitor ink levels etc.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail

it means something corrupted your panels. you need to reset your panels to default then reinstall hplip

also, make sure you're not using docky or cairo dock. those will interfere with certain applets on the panel. if you MUST use docks, then you can't use the hplip monitor. i found this out from hours of trial and error.
