Could you give us some more information please? What brand and model is your laptop (I assume it's a laptop)?

Just locate your computer and see what notes are given concerning the built-in camera.

Well...

To use your webcam I would try two things.

1) Open a terminal and type:

"lsusb"

The results should show an ID for your webcam.

2) Open a terminal and type:

"sudo apt-get install cheese"

This should install the cheese application which can use your webcam. Then you can run cheese and see if your webcam works.
