Hello,

Screen resolution is not connected to you processor or to your availability of memory. Graphics, what you is what you get is connected to your graphic card and monitor.

As you have written to me, I guess that you have a better graphic card, or at least newer. Your resolution I think is connected to your monitor, probably it is too old and it is not capable to produce higher resolution than just 640x480. Linux configures your Monitor automatically like windows, so you don't need to hassle with your monitor settings.

I think that the problem is cause by monitor, just change your monitor. Advice - if you would like a cheap monitor but modern buy a CRT monitor Cathode Ray Tube monitor not LCD or Plasma cause those are very pricey, so just buy a CRT monitor which is cheap but modern too.

Here is a link too http://www.viewsonic.com/products/desktopdisplays/crtmonitors/

Hi There:

This internet is great stuff as we are able to communicate with
people anywhere and its neat that someone from Romania would respond to this
request. Basically all I was saying by indicating computer type and memory
is that the computer is more than capable of keeping up with the OS in this
case Linux 6.06. The monitor is old and I usuallu use it for testing only so
as you say will need to get another. No sweat. Still the question remains,
this post boot change does not reflect itself until after the login
procedure is complete and then the screen is fine. I am new to Linux, in
windows this would not occur. There should be a work around , I will lose
not one ounce of sleep over this . Happy computing and thanks for your
input. Salut from Nova Scotia Canada.

Scott
