Installing Brother HL-2040 on Ubuntu
I am attempting to install a Brother HL-2040 laser printer on Ubuntu. Ubuntu did not recognize the printer, so I used the prompts as follows:
Printer Type: Local Printer
Printer Port: LPT #1
The HL-2040 was not among the Brother models listed as having drivers included with the distro, so I went to the Brother webside, where I downloaded and installed the debian package they provide for this printer. Following the download, the following entry appeared among the Brother models listed:
HL-2040 for CUPS.
Unfortunately, I have been unable to print a test page. The test page appears, then disappears from the print que, but the printer itself remains silent, though turned on with the "ready" light green. It may be that I need to have CUPS installed and it is not? I am looking at instructions for obtainig CUPS, so I will try installing it; however, any guidance as to how I should proceed would be most welcome.
Thanks to those with knowledge who make the time to share it with us, the needy.
