reinstall grub

I have a Windows xp, ubuntu 9.04 jaunty jackalope on my pc. Tried to install ubuntu 9.10 on a extra partition and my boot manager - grub - didnt show out anymore. Therefore i updated my grub to the newest one and now i cant even load windows... that is, im wrighting from a live cd ubuntu 9.04 and the question is how i can reinstall the bootmanager so i can have all os again to choose... i will be relieved if you got a answer for me...

Take a look a this guide: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RecoveringUbuntuAfterInstallingWindows

Take note of this part:

"If, after installing grub, Windows does not appear in the boot menu, you will need to edit /boot/grub/menu.lst"

And also this part:

"Note: For Ubuntu 9.10 (and later) which use Grub2, there is no menu.lst. You need to run the following command to automatically update your grub configuration to pick up windows. If that fails, you need to manually edit /boot/grub/grub.cfg"
