How does one get a critical bug looked at?

By critical I mean that as a result of it, your computer is completely useless for anything more than warming feet.

The bug has been reported, and is putting a lot of people off ubuntu.

I think it needs to be looked at as a high priority for the good of linux.

Anyone know who to speak to?

The issue has been reported in Debian also. http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=530357 Get in touch with the upstream developer. See if you can help out by testing any fix that may be available.

By upstream I meant grub developers here. GRUB bug is http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=530357 It hasn't been assigned to anyone. Grub maintainers mailing list is <email address hidden>. You can write to them or update the grub bug. Bottom line is since the bug is in the base package, it is best to follow up with GRUB or debian.

I'm still slightly confused as to what I need to do next. A few questions:

Are you saying that this problem is best dealt with by the grub and debian developers?

In which case, am I right in thinking they are already dealing with it, as the bugs seem to have been reported on those other websites?

I don't understand why the email address you've given to me seems to be a debian address, in which case, do they not already know about it? Or do you mean that the bug has been reported to debian, but no one has yet been assigned to it there?

In which case how do I get in touch with the upstream developers _here_?

Sorry I didn't give the link to the GRUB bug. http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?26834 This bug is not assigned to any developer as of now

Grub is the base package, which is part of the GNU project and is used by Debian and Ubuntu.. Both Debian and Grub are upstream to us and Grub is upstream to Debian... Most likely, the fix has to filter down from Grub -> Debian -> Ubuntu.

Bug http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=548803 also seems related to your issue and looks to be actively worked on. Get in touch with the developers there.
