keyboard not functioning in boot menu when attempting to install Ubuntu 12

Asked by Michael Skof

I am attempting to install Ubuntu 12 on my windows xp desktop dell computer. However, when in the boot drive the up and down arrows do not work. I have attempted to install Ubuntu with the windows installer but still have the same problem when in the boot drive. The down arrow (or any key for that matter) will not function so that I cannot change from the default "xp install" to the Ubuntu install.
Can you help me?

K I got it to work. The key is to unplug all other USB devices so that the USB keyboard is the only USB device plugged in. Then the bios will recognize it.
