No grub screen on fresh install of Ubuntu 10.10. Systems seems to be working fine otherwise. Re-installing from CD did not help problem. What can be done?

Asked by Steven D. Shown

I have installed Ubuntu 10.10 from the live CD on my Dell Inspiron 2200 as my only operating system and all seems to be working fine, but while booting up I do not get a GRUB screen which allows me to select an older kernel, or select recovery mode, etc. I have a WUBI install of Ubuntu on my home computer and it has this GRUB screen. Am I supposed to have the GRUB screen on a dedicated install? And if so, how can I fix this problem? I have re-installed 10.10 to correct another problem (wireless card) but it didn't have the GRUB screen either time it was installed. Thank you

On a single OS Ubuntu install, the default kernel will boot. You can hold shift to see the Grub menu if you need to see the Grub menu
