It might be possible to repair your Ubuntu 10.10 system. Did the update fail, or did the update finish, but produce an unusable system? Can you provide more information about the crash? What happens when you try to boot your Ubuntu system?

I was Upgrading with live CD. Not From Update-Manager. When I Start my PC it will show Boot loader (Burg) I was Select My OS (Ubuntu). but It Show black Screen With this lines:

No init found. Try passing init=bootarg

busybox v1.15.3(ubuntu 1:1.15.3-1 ubuntu5) built-in shell(ash)

enter "help" for a list of built-in commands

(initramfs) _

You cannot upgrade from one Ubuntu release to another with the live CD. As is (or should be and please speak up if it isn't) documented everywhere where upgrade instructions are given, the live CD will only install new Ubuntu systems (either replacing the previously existing system, or shrinking it down and installing a second system alongside it). To upgrade, you must use the Update Manager, or the Alternate Install CD.

Nonetheless, a system installed that way should still be functional, and should not give this error. However, Ubuntu 11.04 Natty is still in beta, and bugs, including serious ones, are to be expected. I hope you had all your important files (such as your documents) backed up. They may or may not be recoverable (though if they're not, that may be because you instructed the installer to install over the old system, rather than because of the bug that is causing this boot error).

Boot from the live CD and select Try Ubuntu. When the desktop comes up, you should first make backups of any documents on the hard disk, if possible. You might be able to find partition(s) from your old Ubuntu system under the Places menu. If you are unable to back up any documents that you don't already have adequate copies of, please let me know, so we can focus on that before focusing on attempting to fix or replace the installed system.

You should make sure to recover any important documents before doing anything that would write to the disk.

You may be able to get the newly installed system to boot by reinstalling GRUB2 to the Master Boot Record. See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2#Reinstalling%20from%20LiveCD. Remember that you should be able to access the Internet from the live CD system, which should help you in following those instructions. If you have trouble understanding those instructions, or you perform them but you get the same error when you attempt to boot up from the hard disk, or you have un-backed-up documents on the disk and you were unable to find them, then please open a Terminal window (Ctrl+Alt+T or Applications > Accessories > Terminal) and run this command (by copying it from your web browser or email and pasting it into the Terminal, then pressing enter):

df -h; mount; sudo fdisk -l

Then select all the text from the Terminal (Edit > Select All), copy it to the clipboard (Edit > Copy), and paste it here. Then run bootinfoscript by following the instructions at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1291280, and post entire contents of RESULTS.TXT at http://paste.ubuntu.com, and provide the URL here for accessing that post.

"but when i clicked on the Install icon on the live cd. I saw It was an option to Upgrade...."

Ah, you're right. This was recently added to the Ubuntu 11.04 live CD. I apologize. (http://www.webupd8.org/2011/03/ubuntu-live-cd-will-let-you-upgrade-to.html)

That's good--it means you have probably not lost any documents, and that if you can repair the current problem, you should have a functional Ubuntu 11.04 system. You will still not be able to get back your old Ubuntu 10.10 system, as downgrading is not supported. But you might not need to get it back. And if you do, you can back up your files and reinstall Ubuntu 10.10.

To fix your system, try reinstalling the GRUB2 boot loader to the Master Boot Record:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2#Reinstalling%20from%20LiveCD

If you need help following those instructions, please post again, providing the information I requested in the second half of my previous post.

I suggest you ditch burg and install grub2, it has a tonne more support and will be supported here with ease. Few people use burg so support will be significantly harder

I suggest you boot to liveCD and fsck the partitions so you know the data is consistent.

Can you help with this problem?
