startup error

hello....
i installed ubuntu 10.10 on my new DELL inspiron laptop, in addition to windows 7 ultimate. As soon as i logged in i entered the text "sudo fsck" into the terminal and pressed yes for the question. Later when i restarted, it dint. I rebooted it again and entered the recovery mode.I got the following :

mounting /sys on /root/sys failed:No such file or directory
mounting /proc on /root/proc failed:No such file or directory
Target system doesnt have requested /sbin/init.
No init found.Try passing init= bootarg.

when i tried ,

init= bootarg

i got /bin/sh: bootarg: not found.

Some one please help me out of this .....

Hi. My initial question would be: Why do you need to run fsck right after the installation? Is there something wrong?
You don't need to enter to recovery mode unless there's a problem going on with your system.

Could you reinstall Grub from CD: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2#Reinstalling%20from%20LiveCD . It could help to repair a bad /root in configuration file. Perhaps, it has nothing to do with fsck.
