how can i have a backup of GRUB

well somebody said that "if you format windows XP,then it effect ur UBUNTU 8.04 hardy".I heard that "if you have a backup of GRUB then u may format ur windows". I want to know is this will happen,if yes,how?

I think not (i guess if you format windows, it means you want to delete it), but if you reinstall windows, it will be delete your grub ...

I don't give any guarantees what Windoze will do to your hard disk if you try to reinstall it. It may erase all your partitions, it may not. The link Abi gave is a good one for more info about that.
GRUB will never touch the contents of your partitions, it will just handle your partitions and enable you to choose between the ones you want to boot from.
