Can boot Live session after having reached menu with "Try"

Hello all
I'm completely new to Ubuntu. Followed the step by step instructions to boot from USB. I have a menu screen with the top option to boot in five seconds, press enter, nothing happens but a count down. At the count of 0,, the countdown begins again.

I format the USB and all, the operating system was downloaded directly to a correctly formatted USB. As i said--never used before and not off to a good start.

If it matters at all, the regular operating system is Vista, so I installed the recommended programs, and was just trying to have a look at it, as suggested before I installed it.

The option to install didn't budge either. The memory test worked as did the sub menu.

So are there any configuration settings I can try from within the console?

Did you failed:
   to boot USB installation key
or
   to boot hard disk on which is installed Ubuntu

 the Ubuntu installer for usb is supposed to 'run' Ubuntu alongside current system.
  like i said, the ubantu 'control panel' command to run unbantu didnt run ubantu. just counts down to start over and over and doesnt launch application (operating system?). Like i said, never seen it work --even in a 'the cloud' (which has no link to click on). any thoughts?

heres the link which should also explain what I did (create a USB drive) and what steps I followed on the button 'show me how'. http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/download. evertything looks right, there were no issues. the console top button (which i need) doesnt make anything happen as it should.

Did you MD5 test the ISO you downloaded?

I think it would be fastest just to repeat the above links three step download-to-usb process so as to 'run Ubantu alongside my current operating system', for the purpose of 'trying it' as advertised, and I have already reformat my usb to start from the beginning.

Therefore, my previous question is not an issue at this moment, unless I were to repeat the 3 step download process as before, and find that the console, skin, whatever you call it, responds in the same way. Usb loading Ubuntu control panel, but not launching Ubantu (or whatever I'm expecting it to do).

I definately do not wish to install Ubantu to my hardrive at this stage. It is supposed to do something all from the USB. SO, I need suggestions as to the correct steps to follow, and how to follow, which downloads to select referring to the usb driver + Ubantu operating system version.

I am not familiar with the term 'MD5 test', and would have to google it to find out what is meant.

My computer is dual core, 32-bit, 3.7 ram, HOME BUILT, running Vista home basic. Cheers in anticipation, Vinnie

Sorry, your advice at this stage is too deep, considering I have never seen the thing running. The MD5 instructions refer to a terminal --which terminal does that refer?

Thus, I cannot understand How to achieve MS5Sum, and by the way, the weblink I provided in my original question mentions the THREE easy steps. What happened to the three easy steps?

In addition, as I said before, I wish to make a USB with an operating system on it, not a CD. For the pupose of trying it and having it run alongside this operating system.

Any chance you could please reccomend a compatible combo to install on my USB? That doesn't need MD5Summing and/or Integrity checking?

"which terminal does that refer?" Type Ctrl+Alt+T
MD5 is needed to check downloaded ISO image is not corrupted.
