gramps 3.2.5 in Ubuntu

Asked by Paul Franklin (Ubuntu)

The 3.2.5 release of gramps has been available for months,
and 3.2.5 has been in the Debian pool since 2/17/2011, so
I wonder when you plan to make it available in the Ubuntu
repository, which still has 3.2.3?

Hello Paul,

You should file a bug report instead of a question, asking for it.

As we are now late in the development cycle for Natty (the future Ubuntu stable version), it's not sure that it will work (as this requires a FFe aka Feature Freeze Exception).

I'm converting this to a bug (linked to the question).

Have a nice day.

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gramps
You could contact https://launchpad.net/~treacy who is maintainer of packet.

I contacted him some weeks ago.

He denies he is the maintainer for Ubuntu.
He said he is only the maintainer for Debian.

I suppose Ubuntu's "gramps page" is wrong,
but I can't imagine them changing it because
I said so.

I have a look at attached bug. It seems the package needs an active maintainer (and also someone to answer at Bugs and Questions). Perhaps a job for you, if you are interested in this packet.

We currently have no deviation from Debian for gramps, i.e. we simply have the version maintained by James A. Treacy in Debian. We'll start automatically importing new versions from Debian about a week or two after natty releases.

While James Treacy maintains the package in Debian, in Ubuntu, it's part of Universe, and thus maintained by the MOTUs https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MOTU

Now that there is discussion in LP: #742571, maybe it'll be available in Ubuntu before natty releases. If you want it to happen and think it's a good idea, it can be done, but obviously bringing in new software versions late, before a release is not without danger.

Can you help with this problem?
