go from partition installation to a complete install

Asked by johm mcconnell

My system: dell p3 120gig hard drive, 500 gig usb drive. had windows xp home running until i got hit with a couple waves of spyware and adware i cant get rid of. I tried to format the entire disk with my ubuntu disk, but failed. finally, i installed it on the 500 gig drive. i have 2 drives according to gnome both of which are 80 gigs. i would like to somehow completely wipe the windows out so i can reinstall using all my resources. any suggestions how to KILL windows???
thanks, John ps. the main problem is a file that has wormed its way into the program files of drive c and I cant delete it using any of the normal ways, because, "" the system has it in use and you cant remove it """. I also have a hunch that some how it is preventing me from getting any sounds , so far out of unbutu. I have managed to get my dsl working, though and also my vpn, so im happy about that.

It is highly unlikely that a Windows virus/malware is stopping your audio from working in Ubuntu.

In Ubuntu, go to Applications > Accessories > Terminal. Then type in: sudo fdisk -l (that's a lowercase L). This command will list the disks and partitions you have so we can see exactly how your disks are set up. It will ask for your password, so enter it. Your password will not appear on the screen. Copy and paste the results here.

It says it's installed on the 80GB, not the 500GB as you said.

Looks like you installed Ubuntu using Wubi (ie. installing while logged into Windows). In that case if you want to remove Windows completely you're best off doing a fresh install.

Backup any data you want to keep onto your 500GB USB drive. Unplug the 500GB USB drive. Then reboot with the Ubuntu CD and install from there. When it asks about disk partitioning, select "Use entire disk". After it's installed and booted into Ubuntu, connect your USB drive again.

Can you help with this problem?
