how do I reformat the HD from ubuntu?

I am re-installing Ubuntu server on my server after having had trouble from before. I was under the impression that everything would be wiped clean from the Hard Drive, but I still had some of the old files from before, but nothing like Java and such. So I am wanting to completely start from scratch with absolutely nothing more than what is installed from the OS setup.

Is there any command I can give Ubuntu to wipe the HD clean of everything and then re-install the OS? I am going to re-install it anyways because I messed up in the setup.

You can use any partition manager you like. The partitions are defacto standard. You can even use gparted in Ubuntu liveCD to remove the old partitions then install to the free space. If you prefer CLI you can use fdisk. Even Windows disk manager can remove them.
